I saw a quilt last year that incorporated small pinwheels and I think only one of the Pinwheels was dimensional. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and how to make it? I googled this and only found one example, but all of the pinwheels were dimensional and that would be too much for what I'm looking for.
I thought they might look good as a border on a round robin. If you have other ideas for the round robin I'm looking for ideas.

You could make a double pinwheel (picture attached) and make either the large or the small pinwheel 3 dimensional by folding the fabrics.

How would I make one of the pinwheels dimensional, that is a folded piece of fabric?

Sew the two 1/2 sq triangles together first, then add your folded triangle last. You would probably need to hand tack the point to the block.

I wanted the triangle to only be attached to one side, so I needed to cut a square, then fold it in half and sew a 1/4 inch seam, trim the corner and turn. Then I sewed it into the pinwheel.

I love these . Somehow I accidently made these without knowing what they. But they were so adorable on childrens quilts. And you can make them any size. It's a bit more work than a lot of people really eant to do, but it's worth it when you have a finished baby quilt. I would normally use the 3 1/2" squares, with 4 to a block, then the next block would be as stand alone with a pretty design in it, or children's desing. I left the pinwheel square with a solid back ground and the pinewheel itself with a very tiny print. You can really enjoy working with them especially when you're finished and you see what you accomplished....... only to find tha right in the middle you find one pin-whell going in the wrong direction.... after a few mumbled words so as not to embarass the two fluffs, I begin the chore of snipping tiny stitches until I can finall reach the one block.. But hey, wuilting is fun, right?

I'm still struggling with this. I wanted the pinwheels to come out from the axis (center). The only way I could do it was to fold a square in-half twice to form a triangle, much like a prairie point. But I had to add this in the middle of the half square triangle, so that meant not being able to sew two squares together 1/4 inch either side of the diagonal. I had to insert the folded triangle between the two diagonal pieces. I wonder if it's worth it. Here is my sample, but I think I need to have more contrast between the pinwheel and the outside of the block.
