Help With Sashing

I started out making a twin size quilt but along the way I decided to make a full size. All went well until I started to add my sashing only to discover that I do not have enough of the fabric I wanted to use without splicing it. Since this quilt is to be a gift, will it be OK to splice the sashing or should I purchase a couple of yards of additional fabric so I have a sashing that is not pieced? Will the spliced sashing stand out like a sore thumb or will the quilting somewhat hide the splice?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I guess it would depend on the fabric, but my guess is that once it is quilted it won't be noticeable unless it is a print that obviosly doesn't match up.

Most fabrics would be fine spliced. I would splice on the diagonal and press the splice open. The only fabrics I can think of that wouldn't work spliced into a sashing would be stripes and possibly some very large prints.

I have done this with a couple of quilts and by pressing open the joining seams you have to "hunt" for the areas after you have finished the quilt. Also, unless the person receiving the quilt is a quilter, it is unlikely they will notice or see as a fix where you've seamed. If the receiver is a quilter, she will understand.

I think you will be OK piecing the sashing. Once quilted, it probably won't show.
