I'm making a baby quilt out of receiving blankets and flannel for the backing. It will be tied and I thought it would be a nice touch to have a satin binding. The problem is, I have never used satin binding so I need so pointers on the best way to attach it to the quilt. All suggestions are welcome. I know there are a lot of very talented quilters on here so I'm looking forward to what everone will have to say.

Thanks,

I just sew one side with machine then hand sewed other side.

LOTS OF PINS!!! the satin binding is very slippery to work with, when i used it on a quilt at my daughter's request i had to pin every 2" and still had to sew slowly. makes a very nice edge- worth the extra work

personally I would not put a satin binding on a flannel quilt. The flannel is going to be washed heavily over time and the satin will most likely not hold up the same as the flannel. If you want a shinny look, try a poly/cotton fabric that has a sheen. On the other hand it would depend somewhat on whether you are using satin ribbon as usually seen on ready made quilts or a satin bias tape. But think of the washability and use of the quilt.

Holice makes a great point.

I used the satin binding on a baby blanket - I straight stitched one side in place, then brought the binding around and pinned it (lots!) and then ran a wide zig-zag around to pick up the edges on both front and back. I thought it was a nice "touch" to add to a blanket - my DIL reminded me how much babies liked the different feel of things so I used flannel and minkee in the blanket with the satin binding - turned out great!
