I am making a baby quilt. The top is squared 100% cotton and the back is flannel (from Joannes).

What binding would work best on this combination? Cotton or flannel?
Its crib size so how wide should I make the binding?

When I use flannel for the backing, I still use cotton for the binding. I think flannel would stretch too much for the binding, but, maybe someone on here with more experience could clarify for you.

I would still use cotton for binding and do it double I usually have 1/2 inch binding showing on each side so would cut 3" wide fold and press in half and stitch on in usual way

Flannel will not wear as long when put on the edge and will be bulky, making the edge stiffer.

I agree, flannel is not the best for binding. It stretches and is too bulky. Probably wouldn't wear as well either. I tried it once and won't again.

Double cotton binding is the way I would go also. Flannel would stretch and wear out faster.

I love the feel of flannel but it just doesn't work for binding for me. I stick with cotton.

Use the cotton for binding. I cut mine 2 1/2" wide, then press it in half to double it, making it 1 1/4" wide, before I sew it on.

I agree--cotton binding. If you hand-bind with flannel, it is very thick to work with.
