Help with a Singer 15-91

I put it away a few years ago and it worked good. I pulled it out a few days ago and am having a problem with it. It will sew 3 or 4 stitches and skip 6 or 8. Any help will be greatful, Thanks Mike.

I'm guessing that you tried the usual - cleaning, making sure there is no thread caught anywhere, new needle, rethread, wind new bobbin, bobbin in correctly, etc.?

sounds like a needle problem.

I agree, it might be the needle. Try taking it out and reinserting it. But honestly, if I had a machine that I'd not used for that long, I'd take it to the local sewing machine fixer for a tune up before I tried to use it for making something.

Thanks for the help. I'll try a new needle and see if that's a fix.

Please let us know how it turns out.

That's what it was. I never thought to change the needle after 4 quilts. Now if I can locate some light bulbs for it.

Great news!!

Make sure it is oiled nicely, I love my old Singer 15's but they do like to have some oil now and then :) They are wonderful and require very little maintence. Make sure your machine threaded properly too.

Do you have a manual for the machine? They should be available on line. The manual will show where to oil and where to grease. After 4 years of storage it should be cleaned up and oiled and greased.

Good luck

It worked for about 6 inches and it started all over again. At wits end. Yes I have the manuel that came with the machine and have oiled and greased it with in an inch of it's life.

I know you've already tried changing the needle, but I've had mine act like this when I accidentally got the needle in wrong. 15-91 NFL (needle flat left). I had to write that down and put it with my machine, since I have so many different machines that it is hard to remember. You can also get skipped stitches if the needle isn't the right size for the fabric you are sewing.

Also make sure the flat side of the needle is pointing "away" from the machine. Ask me how I know... :o
