I just found three more sets of vintage quilt blocks on eBay. I'm really tempted to bid on them but have declared a moratorium on buying anything for new projects. Somebody talk me out of it!

OdessaQuilts 11-12-2009 11:07 AM

Talk you out of the moratorium? Or out of buying these blocks?

You'll have to be more specific, or we can't help! 8) 8)

I'll listen to both sides. :D

Ahhhh go ahead and get them. Christmas is coming you may need them.
Haha. Treat yourself.

I have a similar moratorium but I have negotiated with myself that IF I start a new project, I can buy more stuff for the project. (I am signed up for some swaps on the QB - that counts!!!!!)

I'll honor your moratorium for today. You're free to shop.

Let me know who will be honoring it for you tomorrow. I definitely need to shop tomorrow (I have a $25 discount burning a hole through my willpower).

I will happily take it for tomorrow 8) 8) 8)

I like that idea with a bit of a twist. I just finished a project so maybe I can lift the moratorium temporarily.

Are you going to show us the blocks when you get them?

You think like I do. I would try to talk myself out of it for a while and end up getting them anyway. If you really love them......GET THEM.

The upside with Ebay.. there will always be MORE.. different and just as good .. I tell this to myself all the time as I watch items, then think no no no.. and oh whats one more tiny little... so take my words of wisdom and disgard the fact I ignore them completely. (I do find putting something on the watch board.. make sure its days away.. and watching it.. by the end the gotta have it sometimes.. is gone its like you saw it enough therefore its almost as good as having had it..)

Your in the wrong place to ask us to stop you from buying more stuff to quilt with. We are enablers here!

Sorta like going to the local drug dealer asking for help in kicking the habit....

Oh, go ahead. I did! Bought two charm packs today!

bebe 11-12-2009 07:41 PM

you need them :D :D :D

quiltsRfun 11-13-2009 10:59 AM

The problem seems to be resolving itself. One set got away from me before I could bid. The one I really wanted went beyond what I was willing to pay. The third is still there but it's not my favorite of the three so I may let it go.

Shemjo 11-13-2009 02:20 PM

See how those things work out!

hilandflwr 11-14-2009 08:53 AM

Go ahead, buy them! But only if you love them. That's my rule for myself--funny how I love so many wonderful fabrics and vintage quilts!!

Quilt Mom 11-17-2009 06:19 AM

What did you decide to do?

Bevanger 11-17-2009 06:42 AM

now you KNOW you really want them  GO FOR IT!

Moonpi 11-17-2009 06:57 AM

My own brainwashing trick with E-Bay is the "Watch this item" button. Combined with an alert, I get the accomplishment of hitting a button, without all the commitment of spending money. If the alert pops up and says the item is ending soon, and it is still really cheap, only THEN will I bid on it. Usually, by that time, my priorities are back in order, and I am less tempted to overspend.

quiltsRfun 11-17-2009 09:51 AM

Moonpi, you and I think alike. That's exactly what I did. I ended up passing on all three and I'm not sorry. A lot of my eBay shopping in the past has been spur of the moment and I ended up with things that weren't exactly what I wanted.
