Help with a strippy quilt
1 Attachment(s)
Please excuse the wrinkles in this quilt top as it has been languishing in the closet for several years now because I cannot figure out what, if anything, to put in the four large, vertical, white areas.
There is no pattern, as this was one of those make-it-up-as-you-go-along projects; it just sort of evolved. I've considered applique, but since this will eventually go to a young man (or a middle aged man if I can't get it together!), flowers seem inappropriate. Any and all suggestions, no matter how far fetched you might deem them to be, will be welcomed! Thank you in advance for your input. |
How about just an applique vine?

i think it looks fine as it is. if you don't like it plain, when you quilt it, use a blue thread, or another color that you like.

I think it's great the way it is, right in keeping with the modern style and ideal for a gentleman of any age. Look how far ahead of the curve you were to design it years ago! :)

What are the interests of the young man? Suggestions: applique plain or pieced stars, quilted or applique animals or birds .....
It is beautiful the way it is and would accent any decor. Great work! |
You could crosshatch in thru the blocks and into the white are using a patriotic variegated thread that is, if the rectangles do line up on an angle. That would be quick and easy.

I would quilt different shape and size stars in red and blue thread

Like it as it is!!!!

I think it is fine as it is! You could get creative in the white areas with some quilting designs like swirls--the space would be great for feathers but that may be a little too feminine.

Okay, you said far-fetched......
This quilt reminds me of one in the first, year long, round robin I did with 10 very special friends about 20 years ago. With the challenge parameters we had set, anyone was allowed to even cut apart and reassemble a quilt received in their round .......... and one of the strippy flying geese quilts was done exactly that way! It turned out SO interesting! Wish I had a picture of it, but it looked sort of like this graph below. Your quilt be will wonderful no matter what you do with it! :) Jan in VA |
