Just learning to domy own quilting. ive done 8 lap quilts for charity and was having problems with thread breaking friend suggested using larger needle fixed. now im doing straight lines this time. starts out find but 2\3 the was down the stitches get tiny! Tried adjusting tension- bad idea! Rethreaded, changed needle, bobbin checked for thread in tension discs what am i doing wrong? It was serviced last yr. just a straight stitch machine! Only machince I have with walking foôt!!

One cause of this is weight on the quilt -- for example, if it is getting hung up on a corner of the cabinet. Anything that causes drag on the quilt can result in the tiny stitches.

Another cause can simply be a worn-out walking foot. There is a spring inside the foot that can get worn out from use. You may need to buy a new walking foot.

If you are getting tiny stitches with your walking foot on, check to see if you have the arm engaged on the needle bar. It sounds simple but I have forgotten to put the arm onto the needle bar more than once. I was quilting along increasing my stitch length again and again and wondering what the heck was wrong. Duh....the arm not engaged.
