i need to put an edge binding on a quilt for a show. Unfortunately the front and back clash with no material that will go with both.
You fantastic people who have just woke up refreshed and ready to go. Any idea how I can make an edge binding which matches front and back. P.S. black is too much of a contrast for the back of quilt it screams take me off. |
It would be super helpful if you could post a pic of front and back and maybe one with a corner folded to the front to show front and back at same time.
|
Yes, please post a pic of both sides so I have something to ponder while I eat my breakfast.
|
yes give us a pic!
but honestly I never worry about matching the back and I think black goes with everything will someone be looking to see if they match at the quilt show? do they look at that when they judge? really do they? |
Slight problem It is going in a show and mustn't be showen yet.
Imagine a window with shutters each side and a hanging cactus(paper pieced in the window.0 Each side of the shutters is a black and white brick fabvris wall. the back is hand dyed fabric in creams blus and greens all very very pale. |

I now they turn it over to look at he stitching. It is my first time and I am putting in 3 . this one due to rules has had to extended from 24 inch to 48 becausethe rules state that all quiltrs must be at least a metre one way.
i was mad when I gfound this out. |
Perhaps a green to bring out the color of the cactus and pick up the green in the background? Or pick a color in the pot or hanger that the cactus is in?
|
How about a mottled batik in the cactus colors, with maybe some of the pales from the back?
|
what about a 2-sided binding?

Cab you tell me how to make a double sided binding? it was my original idea but don't know how and couldn't find out how to. |
I make two sided binding a lot. All yoou do is cut the fabric you want for the front 1 inch and the fabric you want on the back 2 inches. Sew them together fold in half and put it on your quilt. If you want you can always make a sample and see how this works. Good Luck.
|
Does this mean you only put single fold on each side. i usually fold the 21/2inch bindingin half and put it on double. is there a special way to do the corners as single fold?

sorry I don't know how to do a tutoral on it. But by cutting your strips 1 inch and 2 inch and sewing them together you have a 2 1/2 inch strip. Then you fold that in half and you have your binding. Take a scrap fabric and cut it that size, sew, fold in half and you will see how it works. I don't know how to explain it any better than that
|
match the front and won't worry about matching the back unless the color offends YOU.
|
google "two color binding" - several things come up

I sew strip scraps together and make six, eight or more color changes on front and back. I sew two 3" wide long strips together, fold right side out and press. Sew the raw ends together on the right side of fabric before sewing on quilt to keep the binding sides even. Double sided double fold binding made!
