Help!!!! with table topper

I received a table topper from a friend that she would like to replace.(About 20 years old.) Does anyone know the name of this pattern? I would like to make one for her but I don't know how to attach the diamond points to the dresden plate. Is the y seam the way to attach? The tabletopper is a pointed dresden plate with diamond pieces coming from the dresden plate with 3 (small, med, large) diamonds coming from the spokes of the dresden spokes.
I have made the pointed dresden plate so have that part just don't know what to do next. Hope you can help. Thanks, JEANNE

Can you post a picture or link?

Wish I could but my camera is on the frisz. The tabletopper fits on a 45 inch round table and measures about 42 inches.

I don't think we can offer much assistance/advice without seeing what it is you are trying to do! On a regular dresden plate the "plate" is appliques down, then the center is put on and appliqued down as well!

a search for dresden variations came up with this:

Maybe you can find a similar block to get you started.

Here is a picture of what Jacquie was talking about, maybe it will help? When you're done assembling the plate, you applique it onto background fabric. You don't have to worry about Y seams, because you're not piecing it.

Moda Bake Shop has a tutorial for making Dresden Plates. http://www.modabakeshop.com/2009/10/...our-table.html.

everything that the others said. to add... if you don't like all the bulk after appliqueing the dresden on the backing, you can cut out the backing behind the dresden.
