Is there an easy way to get this stuff to tear? It is giving me fits :-(

hcarpanini 10-25-2010 11:29 AM

what are you using? Did you shorten your stitch length?

I don't like tear away unless it is for a dense design, other wise I distort my stitches trying to tear it off.

I have very heavily starched fabric and then used a heavy wash away instead, when ever possible :D:D:D

I put my fingernail against the design and tear slowly it works for me. I also use tweezers if I need to.

My stitches may be the answer.

I forgot to say it is Pellon 806 stitch-n-tear.

I use tweezers.

when ever you use a tear-away stablizer you need to shorten your stitch length, to 12-16 stitches per inch works pretty good. sometimes if you spritz it with water it will come loose and tear away easier, and use good tweezers ...small pieces still left in stitches are not a problem, they will just wash away in the finished quilt ... there are usually tips on the packaging for using and removing the paper.

What great tips here for using tearaway. I haven't tried it before but with the help here I'm sure I will.

Try other tear away material. Some are much easier than others. I always fold on the lines before sewing. That Patchwork Place has papers that are really easy. My LQS sometimes has them in stock and they can be ordered online. I have misplaced the information for ordering online but someone else may have ordered from them. Quilt Fan
