Help thread keeps breaking
I have a brother 1500s and I have cleaned it changed needles
and the thread keeps breaking it's so frustrating my tension is set at # 2 oh and I a stippling TIA Lisa |
Have you tried a different spool of thread?

I had the same problem when I tried to use cotton thread. I changed to Essential Pro polyester thread from Connecting Threads and it helped but still broke eventually. I have now since changed to Isacord that was suggested by Leah Day in one of her UTube videos and it has been wonderful--haven't had a break yet. I also changed to a larger needle.

Have you lowered the feed dogs to FMQ? I had it happen a couple times, but after cleaning the bobbin case really well and re-threading the machine, I had no more problems. Oh, I also changed the needle, so I really don't know what caused it, but one of those obviously did. Are you using a good-quality thread that is not too old? Old thread can weaken I am told. A couple things could cause the thread to break. I'd first check if the tension was too tight.
OR Is the needle too small or does it have a bur. I'd change needles again. And how old is the thread? It can rot and break too. Very frustrating. Good luck |
In tension issues you will have to find by trial and error what works best to FMQ on your machine and on the quilt sandwich you are doing. On my machine I return to the factory suggested tension for regular sewing and then start changing the tension a bit at a time. Make sure if you have a thread spool with the little cut in it for the thread end, that it is not catching. Inspect the thread's path and make sure it is clean and clear. Make sure you have the zig zag sole plate on your machine so that the push/pull of the needle doesn't make it hit the sole plate and clip the thread. Make sure your needle hasn't slipped down in the holder a smidge.

What thread are you using? What size and type of needle are you using? What fabrics and batting are you using? Are you going too slow or too fast? There are a lot of factors involved.

Is the thread making a clean break or is it all frayed at the broken end ? My thread was breaking but I noticed it was always frayed where it was breaking - tried a larger needle (topstitch 90/14) and no more problems.

Virtualbernie, are you saying you use Isacord Polyester Embroidery Thread for piecing and quilting? Sorry if thats a dumb question but Im also looking for thread that is more durable and has less breakage. The only Isacord Im finding online is embroidery. Thanks for any info. KK |
I have been having problems with my brother machine also (thread breaking). Since before Christmas it has been in and out of the repair shop (the machine is a little over 1 year). One time I was told that the housing for the bobbin was bent. It was replaced. Since that it worked a couple of hours then threads breaking again!
Brought it back and forth 3 more times. During one of those times 2 circuit boards were replaced! Each time I was told it worked in the shop but when I get it home it doesn't work. Finally I brought it to another place to get repaired. I am now told it is some plastic part that is cracked. The part is being ordered and then I will see???? |
