I'm trying to help my niece thread a machine that was given to her. I've followed the manual to thread the machine. Now I need to fill the bobbin. I've followed all the instructions & it won't fill the bobbin. Should the needle be going up & down, because it does & when I'm holding onto the thread around the screw behind the needle the thread in my hand just keeps getting longer & the bobbin never engages & fills. Very frustrating since I've been sewing for years. Please help.

Did you loosen the little wheel on the back of the machine (of course I've forgotten the name of the wheel) and also are you using the correct size bobbin? I had the same problem with the thread not winding around the bobbin and it turns out I was using the wrong bobbin! Once I got a new one out of the pack--no more problems! I have this problem all the time because some of my machines use the clear bobbins and they look sort of the same. I tried to mark them in permanent marker--different color for each machine but this one wasn't marked :x

I don't see the wheel on the back of the machine that you are talking about. I tried changing 3 different bobbins & the same thing happens, nothing. thanks for your help anyway

So if you are looking at the machine straight on the wheels are just to the right of the center. they roll from left to right. The top dial is the needle position dial & the bottom is the stitch width dial. according to the instruction manual the Needle position dial should be in the straight stitch setting indicated by a black triangle symbol with a "c" in the middle, stitch width dial setting on the black triangle with a "o" in the middle. I don't know what else to do but take the machine into a shop for help. Thanks for your help & time. Winona

The wheel on the end of the machine has only one wheel, nothing to loosen inside the wheel, it is solid. The machine is a Singer T&S 758

I found this just now... Dear Cindy, Thread the machine as if you were going to sew, put the presser foot in the up position, take the tread underneath the foot and wrap it around the screw that holds the foot on, open the bobbin door/plate, insert a fresh bobbin, in the lower left hand corner of the bobbin area there is a button that looks like a club foot- press it to the left. Start the machine up, run the machine for about 4-5 seconds, stop the machne, unwrap the thread from the screw, pull the thread out of the machine, and continue to wind. The first white line on the bobbin is two yards of thread, and so on. When you have enough thread on the bobbin, shut the bobbin door/plate and check to make sure that the club foot button has been disengaged, if it has not then disengage it, then begin to sew. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, let me know. Thank You, SewVac Doctor |
Thanks for your help, but it still won't work. I've come to the conclusion that something is wrong with the machine.
My niece has another machine, singer T&S 604. I'm excited that I was able to fill the bobbin in this machine on the 1st try. Yippee! thanks again! |
