Help! twister quilt
I bought some white layer cakes & Sesame Street fabric to make a twister quilt. Since the Sesame Street fabric is so bright I wash, spray starched & ironed and did the same with the layer cakes. The layer cakes shrunk to 10 x 9 1/4 - 9 1/2. Now what do I do? I took some scrap fabric & cut 9 1/2 squares & the twister works with that, but some of the layer cakes aren't quite 9 1/2!!! ARG. Should I just buy new layer cakes & not wash them?

I would use what you have and see how it turns out, if you have to buy more then you can do so. I would go with 9 1/4 versus the 9 1/2. You might have an extra one or two to make but I'm sure it will turn out fine.

I would get a big piece of paper out and draw several of the first square sizes (minus seam allowances). I would then take my Twister ruler and lay it on the paper as if I was going to cut out the twister shape but instead trace around it with a different coloured pencil. Do this for about 4 to 6 blocks and see if there is enough room between the twister blocks to rotary cut out the shapes from your reduced material sizes. It will take the guess work out of it and will let you know if you need to buy more material. There is some fabric space left usually between the Twister cuts so you might have enough?

You can sew a VERY scant quarter and you may have enough room to make it work.

I would square the blocks to the smallest measurement. Then I would take the ruler and trace it onto some of that plastic that you can use for templates and put in the marks. Then I would trim the plastic (carefully so the lines are in approximately the right place) to match the size of the blocks (and mark the size of the block on the template) and I would then use the template to cut the twister blocks. I have done this several times when I have found my starting pieces are not the same size.
