Help w/Baby Lock 5000

I just picked up a Baby Lock 5000 at the flea market w/no manual. I've looked online but none were available, and I won't be able to get to the retailer until Monday. Anyway, the presser foot doesn't touch the needle plate. Any idea what could be wrong? It only cost $10.00 so I was willing to take a chance on it.

Ck www.sewingpartsonline.com for manual..they are very good to work with. Is it an emb machine? or sewing? Emb/darning feet DON'T touch the needle plate.

Thanks mermaid for the info! I checked sewingpartsonline.com but the manual is no longer available. If I can't find one, hopefully they can recommend a manual of a similar sewing machine. I was thinking that it might have the wrong foot on there, but that was the only foot that came with it and without a manual, I just wasn't sure. Thanks again.

I did a search for you looking for a free manual, but this is the only one I could find--$24.99

Babylock has a page of free downloadable manuals by type. This is the sewing machine page. None of them are shown as a 5000. Perhaps you can match up what your machine looks like to one of those shown. http://www.babylock.com/downloads/manuals/

I'm wondering if it is a high shank machine with a low shank foot on it. I know there are places online that list the measurements so you can measure from the needle plate to the setting screw to know. Good luck

Here are a couple of websites that explain how to measure shank size of your machine and shank size of the foot you have, to see if you have the wrong foot for the machine:

Thanks everyone for all the info! Sounds like I might have a high shank machine w/a low shank foot. After spending a few hours online, I finally found a place that had a manual. It should be here by the end of the week.
