I have a grandson that loves red. Any shade of red.

I think most colors would work as long as the primary color in the block follows through out the quilt. Of course just stay away from many of the florals and girlie prints.

I have 2 sons. Youngest son's first quilt was teal and apple green, his second quilt (he picked it out) is a red white & blue string quilt. Oldest son's first quilt was teal and white, his second quilt (also picked out by him) is beachy pastels, including pinks. He said he liked it because it looked summery.

Our family has never conformed to gender colours. It amuses me that back in the forties pink was for boys and blue for girls. We let our kids like what they liked regardless of what society deemed they were supposed to choose. My friend’s grandson loved purple before he could talk. My grandson liked the combination of pink with green since he was old enough to choose. We are never going to get away from stereotypes as long as we play into gendered colours.

You might want to check out teen clothing lines, especially on websites that sell skateboard gear. You’d probably get a pretty good idea of what colors are popular for boys there.

I would focus on the quilt patterns instead of the colors choices. Look for patterns that are interesting - like 3D, mazes, geometric, chess game board. There are some neat Morse code quilts.

I try not to use pinks, purples or flowers. Lots of color choices left.

yup--no pink, no flowers or "girlie" prints--but brights good, sports motif fabrics, solids, plaids and stripes, etc.

Actually, a couple years ago, pink actually became quite fashionable for teenage boys. Lots of guys in my son's Scout troop were wearing it. I don't know if it's still fashionable, or if that trend has passed. However, I would say that ALL my menfolk do not like flowery, swirly, "girly" looking or cutesy prints. They're happy with tone-on-tone, geometric, dots, stripes, checks, etc. Vines or leafy prints are ok if they don't include flowers.
