HELP!!!!

About a year ago- when I started quilting -I brilliantly purchased several yards of printed blocked fabric from Walmart. They had it in 2 different patterns and 2 colors (blue or green). They looked like I had done a terrific job of quilting the blocks

I purchased 3 pieces. Unfortunately I didn't realize that the blocks/fabric was not squared. The 1st 2 quilts I made have been a disaster. They have puckered when I quilted them, been a pain to connect with binding. (They almost make me hate quilting)

The last one I cut into 4 block squares and added a 1" border around it. The blocksarae approx 13 1/2" sq. I want to square it and add an additional border before I sew them together

Now my question is - How do I square up the blocks. The largest square I have is 12 1/2

Should I purchase a larger square or is there a cheaper way to do this.

Thanks

I've had to use my long 24 inch ruler beside another one to cut things before. just be sure you measure correctly when counting the other ruler. don't use one that has 1/2 inch on the outside, that is.
also one way is to take what you need to cut and fold in half and press, then measure out 1/2 of the size you need and trim.

One very accurate way is to cut freezer paper the size you want the unfinished block to be, iron it to the block and then cut to the block to fit. The freezer paper block can be used many times.

I've bought lots and lots of Wal Mart Fabrics and have never had this problem. I also shy away with fabric with stripes, line or anything like thase. If I do happen once in a while to buy fabrics like that I find I always have to cut each piece along a line to make it straight. I think it is up to the manufacturer to print it straight, just what I think. The store where you buy fabric is not responsible for everything. Good luck.

This is how I would do it, folding it in half.
