I made 12 blocks for a lap quilt and none of them are square or the same size. Do I square and size each block up before sewing into rows or try to even the rows up or what! If I do that is it going to look worse? It all looks like a big mess at the moment. I'm really disappointed in myself. It's obvious that I didn't take my time be precise with my cuts and now I'm gonna pay the price!

Measure all the blocks find the smallest and cut the rest down to match that size- or you can add borders to make the blocks more uniform in size but that will be more challenging. Better to fix it now

Definately take the time to square up before you sew together. You may need to adjust a block or two but it should work out fine.. Easier to square up blocks than the whole quilt

You may be disappointed with yourself, but I sure do like the blocks! It will be astounding when you get it together!

sweetie, it was not you..it is all those triangles..was bound to happen...
did you wash your fabric? If not, then you can just measure the smallest and cut them all down.. IF yes, then spray them with water, and BLOCK them out with the iron, then measure the smallest and cut down. You might find that after they are blocked, they won't be so bad! |
some say our best teachers are when we make a mistake.
Accuracy is key to good quilt making. Accurate marking or measuring Accurate cutting Accurate sewing and take your time in doing each of the above. |
Definitely square them up before you sew them together. Otherwise you're just asking for puckers and valleys and hills. You can do a certain amount of easing, but if they are all different sizes probably following what others have suggested is best.
|
If you square them to the smallest you will have an easier time putting the top together. Odds are, you will be fighting the seams to match if you don't. Speaking from experience. BTW, not sure why you need sizing.

I agree with the advice above, but if this design would benefit from sashing, you could also try that and adjust the sashing strips to add whatever you need to each block.
|
You have already been given some great advice, but I just wanted to say hang in there! I know sometimes it is frustrating.
