I am in the basement at the computer here and I find a neat tip on how to make 9-patch blocks an easy way. My printer is low on ink so I go upstairs to print out the neat idea and now I can't find it. It consisted of 2 9 1/2" blocks sewed on the 2 sides, cut apart in 2 places, etc. Anyone know where I saw it? Thanks in advance for the help.

go back to your history on the computer and you can find it that way again, good luck

Thanks, you guys are the best. I tried looking in all my past stuff and couldn't find it. Maybe if I would get to Staples and get more printer ink I wouldn't have these problems.

Bookmark them on here, or save to your computer. I have to spend a day just looking through all the stuff I've saved. I don't want to miss a thing.

I must have a million saved on free patterns. If I ever decide to print all of them I will go broke!!!

AnnaK 11-06-2010 01:19 PM

This is a really neat tip; I don't know how I missed it the first time around. Anyone know what is the finished size of the 9P? Thanks!

I try to print them all out right away and put them in my binder. I have never mastered the bookmark thing. Will have to try that one of these days.

featherweight 11-06-2010 01:25 PM

Just figuring in my head, I think I came out with 9". And I could very well be wrong. I am sure if I figured it wrong someone will correct me. I hope anyway. I guess the next best thing to do is cut some scraps and measure when done with all the cutting and sewing.

See the "message" on top of this thread. Look to the left and see "bookmark"? Click "bookmark" and then name it so you can remember. I named it 9 patch. Thats all there is to it.

Yep, that is what I am going to do tonight. I figured since we are having our time change back to standard time I will try to stay up later. So while I was waiting for my supper to cook I went to the basement to get out some pieces of fabric to try the 9 patch and the HST's. Guess what, I couldn't make a decision of what to cut up. Isn't that pathetic?!?!? This is my big problem. I have so many fat quarters, not enough to do anything with, but still don't want to waste them on something I may never use. Get a Life!!!!!

Do you have any muslin? and a piece of junk fabric that you don't know why you bought it? use that, I wouldn't cut up a FQ either.

Good idea! Thanks! Here I go! Will try to post pics if I have any luck.

Thank you, I saw it, and then lost it too - I tried Search, and that didn't come up with it either. I've saved it now.

I believe the 9" block is for a 6 or 6-1/2 inch HST

kitsykeel 11-07-2010 11:12 PM

Hi Grann of 6,
It is in the quilter' message board for November 7. I just downloaded it but can't get it to print just yet.

Does anyone have a picture of a finished block using this tutorial? I'd love to see it. I think it would help. I printed the tutorial but feel like I need a real pcture.

What size is the finished block - it looks like a rectangle on the picture - is that what it is supposed to be?

Thanks bunches! I'm a new quilter and love to learn how to make new blocks from this web site.

I always save patterns and instruction I think I MIGHT want to use to a file on my computer called PROJECTS. Then I only print them if I really decide to proceed. And, LOL, browsing my PROJECTS file is such fun...

this doesn't pertain to this problem but does anyone know if you cut binding bias or with the grain of the material?

Carron 11-09-2010 04:01 PM

you may want to save the page to your documents, it will be there and you need not worry about ink for now.

ptquilts 11-09-2010 04:17 PM

whenever I put a new ink cartridge in my printer, I order another one (get them on ebay) so I am always one ahead.

You can do it either way depending on how you are using it. If your edge is curved then you would use bias, but for a straight edge bias is not necessary. Search previous threads for this topic or start a new thread.

FortMyers 11-10-2010 04:25 AM

I most times will make a specific folder for quilts in my favorites for ideas, but if I really love it I print it right away, to keep me inspires.

quiltyjax 11-13-2010 05:13 AM

Thanks for asking - must have missed that first time round. I love 9patch blocks so will definitely try this method out.
