Helpful new hint....on washing small pieces of fabric....

This is brillant...just read it in a tips for Success sheet I got in the mail today....
To wash small pieces of fabric without fraying the edges,
put them in a salad spinner, rather than a washing machine.
Spin with hot water and soap.
Rinse in cool water, drain and spin.
Press the pieces dry.

I learned this trick some time ago from someone here on QB!!!

I usually just wash my small pieces by hand in a big bowl. Salad spinner would certainly help dry them out!

I read here on qb that you could wash small pieces by hand then just press while wet with hot iron. This will preshrink the fabric as it would shrink in a dryer, thus eliminating the risk of shrinking after it is used in a quilt.

Yep, that's how I've been doing it. It's amazing how much a precut charm will shrink.

Cool trick! I put them in a lingerie bag and in the washer, but only if I buy scraps at the thrift store and don't know if they've been washed or not. I dont' wash charm paks I buy.
