Today I was helping my MIL cut out batting squares for her newest QAYG quilt. She had just bought a new package of batting at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon. She spread out the batt and preceeded to cut her squares, but on closer inspection we realized that the batting was used!
Sure enough, there was a machine stitched outline of a simple quilt and even some squiggly ripped thread! At least it was clean...and at least she got it on sale!!! I'll be buying batting off the bolt from now on, thank you!

Yuck!

The same person who bought that batting, used it, and then returned it is probably the same type of person that would buy a new outfit, leave the tags on it, wear it, and then return it to the store to get their money back!!! It's unbelievable what some people will do!!!

Ick!

I would have taken it back and gotten a new package. That's terrible.

When I worked at Sears, their motto was complete customer satisfaction, so women (not men) would wear a pair of shoes for an evening, and then return them, and with a straight face, say they were not worn. Policy was to take them back. We did NOT resell them.

wolfkitty 09-26-2010 05:35 PM

Yes, the batting should have been returned.

amandasgramma 09-26-2010 05:36 PM

I bought my last packaged batting. The last one I bought, I found had a big THIN area in the middle. I was able to compensate.........it's just too far to town to even return it. and yes, I got it on sale, too!!!
I like Warm and Natural or Warm and White from the bolt, thank you.

luv-e 09-26-2010 05:42 PM

Yes, I would have taken it back too. You make a good point to buy from the bolt. I always throw in the dryer to fluff it up and would see thin places but I think I'm a bolt lady now. Thanks for the tip.

I just can't see someone ripping all that apart, meticulously rolling the batting back up and putting it back in its bag...and then having the nerve to take it back! She bought the Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 blend that comes in the bag with the "bread tag" fastener so it didn't look tampered with. She had cut most of it by the time we noticed! Just can't believe some people!

soniboo 09-26-2010 06:25 PM

Oh my, that's just plain tacky...and dishonest. :(

charmpacksplus 09-26-2010 06:42 PM

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? That's crazy!

SherriB 09-26-2010 07:19 PM

People amaze me! Don't they have a conscience???? :?: I would never of had the nerve to return used goods unless something was seriously wrong and I would have told customer service.

cathyvv 09-26-2010 07:25 PM

Why in the world would anyone use batting and then rip out the quilt? I guess there must be a reason, or else this wouldn't have happened, right?

Pickles 09-26-2010 07:39 PM

Well I think the Store shouldn't have taken it back without having taken it out of the package and checked it before putting it back on the shelve to resale it period !!!

sandpat 09-27-2010 06:08 AM

Oh good lord! Who would have gone to all the trouble to use the batting, then take all that stitching out, then repackage, then drive back to the store...Geesh!!!

And why would the store even imagine that someone would do that to check? Well, I guess we've heard just about everything now:roll: Unbelievable!!
