Hexagons, not, OCTAGONS!!!!!
:oMy previous post regarding sewing Octagons together was incorrect. They are hexagons. I purchased two packs of precuts and want to know how to sew them together. Sorry for the mistake.

The only way to sew whole hexagons together (with the dreaded Y seams) is to make sure you stop at the 1/4 inch mark at each corner. The 1/4 inch mark lets you flip the hexagons around to stitch in the next direction. I have seen the hexagons cut in half so they can be sewn in rows that way.

What do you plan to make with them? Are you doing it by hand or machine? I have done the GFG quilt by hand and what I did was sew the them first to each one to make a circle, then put the smaller one in the center and sewed them together. Not a great description, I know. When I made the "I Spy" quilt there were triangles sewed to the opposite side, then there were straight sides to sew together. If you google "Hexagon I Spy quilt patterns you can see what I am talking about. There was a "Simply Quilts" sew where it was shown which is what got me started doing them.

smaller ones are a bit more difficult but you can do it. Y seams may be in your future. mark your 1/4 seams and go for it.

Ir they are pre-cuts I am thinking they are a pretty good size (not GFG size). Moda has a free pattern called Hexagon shuffle that uses the pre-cut hexagons. It is pretty cute - maybe a little modern looking if you are ok with that. I bought some because I saw this pattern and loved it.

They are five inch Hexis, by Moda, (30's playtime). Thanks so much for the information. I will check this out.

I would be doing those by hand. Just for something to do. Far easier (at least to me) than fighting the Y seams on the machine. Of course, depends on the pattern you're making with them. GFG definitely lends itself to hand piecing.
