I'm all thumbs and spent some time sewing and picking it out. please, can you send help my way? otherwise I got lots of mug rugs. thanks in advance.

Are you asking about how to sew Y seams, or what order to put the rows and columns together?

Is it the one where the edges are folded up over the center shape to form a Hexie that is all edges finished? If so, I think I would connect them by hand with an invisible ladder stitch. If it is the regular Hexies, then they are usually whip stitched carefully together but there are YouTube videos on different stitches to connect them by hand.

Tartan is correct. what I have looks like grandmothers garden layout. I have all black background with the centers red/white material. this would be my first construction of a hexi quilt. Do I understand the ladder stitch would be like sewing the seams together on a knitted sweater? thanks for help. :) |
Ladder stitch illustrated here. This is what I use; the whip stitch shows on the front side and that annoys me. :p

I did a baby quilt with those and did a zig-zag stitch. It was kind of hard and I told myself if I make another one, I'd hand-sew it. I think I will try that because I didn't like the look of the zig-zag showing.

For my hexie quilt, I tried several different stitches and settled on what was called the "flat back stitch". There are Youtube videos of several different stitches for hexies.

oh my, i have tons of hex's cut out to do as framed hex's. i was seriously thinking of doing machine zig zag to join them. I guess it will all depend on how i feel when i get to them again as to how much work i want to do. now the Hickory nut way has them framed and then machine stitched down. then joined.

Check out the One Block Wonder on Facebook. They do a lot with hexis and have lots of instruction.

I strongly suggest you hand stitch them together. I made a king size folded hexie quilt and did it all by hand. The blocks lay so nicely and I think it's faster than on the machine. Try it! You might like it.
