I want to do a quilt for my dad and have all kinds of blues. What is or are your favorite pattern(s)?

thequilterslink 04-13-2010 12:16 PM

i like friendship stars, ohio star, double 9 patch, Disappearing 9 patch, and the list goes on lol

Log cabin is one of my particular favourites. Or how about a crazy quilt with all those blues - you could add a real dark blue for the 'grouting'.

Log cabin sounds like a good choice for a man's quilt in blues.

Jacobs ladder, you only need 2 colors so you can do it with the blues with something else. I am an old fashioned girl I would use white or yellow with the blue if I was making Jacobs Ladder for a man.

I love the Log Cabin and have just finished one in blues in the 'Zen II' fabrics.

Also, Trip around the World is a nice one... I really like the Eleanor Burns way of making this one.

I Have made two storm at sea quilts that are all blue and white. They are absolutely beautiful (See my avatar).

Log cabin is good, or how about a French Braid? Not really hard to do. Also, could do a Disappearing 9 Patch....very very easy and comes out great!

Log Cabin. Easy. And so many layouts too.

I bought a bolt of blue and a bolt of white about 15 years ago, waiting until I get good enough to make a carpenter's square quilt.

log cabin

It seems like the log cabin has it! Do you think if I do 6 different lights, mediums and darks that'll be enough to do a scrappy. If anyone has read my "Can't wrap my head around this!" they'll understand that one I've never done a scrappy and two I believe I have distinct control issues (I've been a matchy person)! So I was going to try a CONTROLED scrappie. Do you think 6 each of each grouping will be enough?

charvan 04-14-2010 05:57 AM

Yes, 6 should be enough. If it's not, you can always add some more, because it is scrappy. Going to be sharp, love blues.

I love the Depression Block on Quilter's Cache. It works with any block size and color combination as long as you have light/dark. It is easy to do and makes a nice masculine quilt.

Log cabin is good for a man. I paper pieced a crazy quilt that would be great also with the different shades of blue.

A Bento block pattern is easy to make and a good geometric design.

Darlene 04-15-2010 03:04 PM

Juanita's kid your quilt is so pretty and I don't even like orange.

zz-pd 04-15-2010 03:55 PM

I really like the Snails Trail but its not the easiest block to do and its time consuming to do.
