DID YOU KNOW THAT WE'RE THE ONLY ONE'S ON LINE THIS MORNING.
HEY WHERE IS EVERBODY |
Morning Debbie! I have been up since about 5 and am working on an Easter wallhanging.... I finished the top yesterday for just a plain Spring one and now I am working on Easter....what have you been working on lately??
|
Hi girls, I am also on line. Do you know me???
I read and post occasionally. I am the one "het up" over the Wal-Mart closing" thing. Has anyone found a complete list of Hancock closings? Several sites have a link but it is NOT 100 stores. We all would like to know. June in Cincinnati, Ohio |
Morning Country Quilter. I knew I'd wake somebody up. Not much today. I've got this awfull cold in my head and I'm still alittle blue about my April block. I just measured March's block and it's 11 1/2 inches also. I quess if they all stay at that size the blocks will match up. What's that old saying "if life gives you lemons, then make lemonade"

Good morning June!
Debbie....my favorite is "if life hands you scraps...make a quilt!" LOL I am in another BOM and not all the squares are going to be the same size... it will be fun trying to put that one together! Most of the other ones I am in are 12 1/2 inches unfinished.... I am going to be able to make about 6 quilts when these are all done!!! LOL |
I'm up to just catching up on the postings
|
i haven't heard anything about hancock closing too. what are they trying to do to us? i was in my hancock last week and she said it looks like they may be the only fabric store in town since walmart quit and hobby lobby is closing down ( i didn't care for their fabrics much anyway) i also macrame and those supplies are hard to find, that's the only thing i usually go there for and they carry much of that any more. Got a nice little quilt shop about 1-1/2 hrs away thank goodness.
|
Sometimes catching up on all the postings can be quite a challenge!!! LOL
I for one, am totally at a loss as to where everything is with the BOM... one list said 36 participants the other day and then a new list was posted with only 32???? It's confusing! :? |
The reason I asked the question is that often people take part in a forum like this and no one knows who they are. I am sure some of you keep in touch privately and have become friends. That is fine. But do you really know the people you share this page with? Just wondering. Not tryin to cound like a commercial.
|
I have 3 people that we email each other often and one that I talk to every day on IM. Mostly just through the posting but even then it seem like I know them. All of you are like having best freinds even if we never actualy met.
|
I feel the same way. I'm at home alone most of the time (hubby works and children are grown ). If I didn't have my quilting buddies here I'd probably go insane with boredom.
|
Thats me too Debbie...my husband is semi-retired.... has a PT job in town just to help with groceries and keep busy (and out of my hair!) LOL So I am here alone all day, and loving it, I might add....have all the time in the world for my quilting!
I have one granddaughter who comes to stay with me on occasion.. she is 6 and I am trying to get her interested in sewing/quilting.... its been fun! I have one IM friend from another quilting board....and a few that PM back and forth on occasion. I've never attended any guilds or retreats so haven't had a chance to meet any other quilters face to face ...yet! Plans to someday!!! |
There's a quilt show coming to my town (Wilmington, NC) in June. Some of the girls here plan on attending. We're going to spend the day together and really getting to know each other. It's going to be so much fun.

I too am alone most of the day well not actualy I take care of my Dad hes 84 doesn't walk or talk any more. So I don't get a chance to get out much can't leave him alone for more then an hour so I do every thing when he takes his nap. So this is my main connection to the outside world. My daughter call a few times a day but usualy needs or wants something when she dose. What I would give gor a day for myself and to be able to sleep for more then 2 hours at a time. I guess thats the price you pay when you have an 84 year old baby. Actualy I am very glad I still have my Dad with me . but there are those days lol
Just want to say thanks all of you for being here |
Good Morning everyone! How is it going? I helped work on the church quilt last night. the blocks are all done but now we are trying to get everything to fit around the center panel and still look symetrical. Its tough. i just want to jump in and say sew something! If its wrong we"ll do it over, but when you are in a group, you can't do that unless you plan on working by yourself after that. The center panel is an applique of the church--about 36 by 42 (Ithink) and the blocks are different sizes--corner blocks are bigger but all have sashing around them. The outside border has our motto "Growing in Faith Together" The sides ahave all the ministries and the date the church was founded (1982) We also have all 4 pastor's names on it.All the lettering was done with the machine. If we can work out the sizing of it and how to make everything fit, it will be beautiful!!!! WE ddin't get as much done last night as I hoped we would--too much discussion and not enough sewing, but I can't just barge in and stomp on them--gotta play nice  We meet again Wed April 18th and by golly we are going to sew!
But---I have to say that working with these ladies and seeing what kind of work they turn out has left me in awe. So much talent in this tiny group (we are down to just 6 people) If we don"t get done soon everyone will have dropped out :!: Nex time we meet, I'll bring the camera and take snapshots and post them. We are going to the mtns for Easter and the whole next week and I am bring both the pansy quilt and the Aunt Hatties garden quilt to work on. If I get to the library I'll post something just to say hi. Have to start packing this weekend--linens and such because I have to work all next week and we are leaving next Thursday night! Yeah :!: :!: :!: Mountains here I come! |
My hats off to you. Caring for parents is a very hard job. Not just on the body but the mind as well. The last year before my mom passed away my 2 sisters and I took care of her in her home. We all had jobs that allowed us to do shift work so we could be with her 24/7. She's been gone for 6 years now and I never regretted the time I spent with her, even tho it took me away from my husband and children I'm glad I was able to be there for her.

HEY WHERE IS EVERBODY i'd felt awful if you got the idea i was ignoring you.  :D |
Hi all I too have spent many years at home alone and it is so nice to be able to read all your thoughts. And a super bonus to have so many talented people to get help from!!
We have a great street here in the woods and every one is like family but of course they are younger and all work and are busy most nights, but we do have a Toco Nite every once in a while! Great fun, then we play games after. Really enjoyed the "remember when" postings & I am amazed at the beautiful quilts you all do. The one from Gojo ??, is super!! especially for a first quilt !! Patrice, THANK YOU so much for all your great knowledge and willingness to share it with all of us!! Am a little late with with BOM but hurt knee real bad and am just today going to try to use pedal for sewing mach. again. ( what I would really like is a little funnel that goes into a little flip top hole in each knee, so I can squirt some 3-in-0ne oil in or something. Keep them lubricated ) !! LOL Well, take care all. Imak (name is Betty but knew there would be more that one so Imak is so I can keep track of myself!---short for imaklutz.) |
Hi again, let me mind wander and forgot to ask---
which posting can I find the second April BOM in (not Arrow Head). Been loking and cant seem to find one with pattern. Thank you Imak |
well imak i'm glad you cleared that up because i for one am always curious about peoples names on here. either on march 30 or april 2 patrice promised to put up the links for the april blocks, we had a bit of confusion but it's all cleared up now and we'll be seeing those april links real soon, sorry bout your knee, hope it's better real soon

Hi all - well, I'm at work, but taking a short break :D
I'm glad we can be here for each other - isn't technology great?! I'll be taking my first real vacation in years starting a week from Saturday - 2 weeks of driving around the country! First stop is to see my Dad in AZ...we're throwing him a huge party in May - the BIG 90! He's healthy & taking care of my step-mom. I'm so lucky to still have both parents, altho' Mom is in an Alzheimer's care facility. She's still VERY healthy, but every day is a NEW day for her now. My sister just called & said when she & my niece took Mom out to lunch this past weekend, Mom said "Well, look at that! There's my daughter & my mother!" Luckily my sister LAUGHED instead of getting her feelings hurt! :D When Mom was still living around the corner from me & I was looking after her, I couldn't have done it without my quilting friends & my other family-friends! We all ROCK!! sue |
WE ALL ROCK!!! 8)

Ceannastahr & DebJ - I took care of my Mom (she'll be 83 in Nov.) for about 3 years by myself as she was getting farther along with Alzheimer's. My sisters & I moved her into a sort of group home last November & she is doing great. I didn't realize how stressed I was getting until she was there! But now she is in a SAFE place (she's a "wanderer")....and I still jump a little when someone walks by my front windows! She used to walk back & forth from her mobile home to mine all day long, so altho' every day is now a brand new day for her, she's in GREAT shape! lol I'm glad you can get a little bit of relief here with all of us. We can all use a break now & again.

I have no idea whether you guys will find any new or useful information here, but i stumbled across this web address while looking for something unrelated:
http://www.caregiverstress.com/ |
Patrice, thanks for posting that site. so many of us are caring for aged, frail parents here. It's so easy to forget that we are not alone. It's a difficult responsibility 24/7 with no time off for good behavior, no sacrosanct lunch hours or mandatory , paid vacation time. Quilting and chocolates are my therapies.
|
was the site of any help?
|
Yes I found some interesting things there thanks
|
I bookmarked the "Resources" section, which I found particularly helpful. Thanks.
|
Just wanted to say how much I admire you for taking care of your Dad like that.
I did not have them in my home but helped take care of 2 grandmas and a grandpa also my m-i-l in their homes so I know what it's like. It was a lot of time and energy consumed but I have never regretted it :) I live in a rural area and am currently not working. I just joined this forum and have never done this before but am starting to recognize the regulars. :-o I like the idea of a whole bunch of online quilting friends with marvelous sense of humor and very down to earth attitudes Marybeth |
Thank you very much. It can be challenging but I know I was also a challenge to my parents, so I guess as Mom use to say turn around is fair play. Never knew what she meant then lol.
You will be addicted to us in no time at all. Never know what to expect from Kathy Tim and Patrice but we love them all. Hope to see you name up alot just jump in and join the fun we may grawl sometimes but never bite. |
expect the unexpected and you'll never be disappointed.
 |
I think I am already hooked.

Hi June6995,
I just came across your message about Hancock fabrics closings. I have never seen a complete list, but our Hancock fabric in Douglasville, GA closed down in May. I was devastated, but did get some good buys on fabric before they closed their doors. I have had to make a lot of new clothes because I've lost 65 pounds (10 sizes), and nothing I had fit me anymore. I got a lot of fabric to make skirts for work. I also got some nice brown pinstripe to make a new suit-haven't got around to that yet, but I got lots of beautiful quilt fabrics. I still have Joann fabric nearby, in fact Joann and Hancock were across the street from one another, and both always busy. |
Hello,
I think I posted my last message in the wrong spot-I hit the backspace arrow, and it looks like it somehow took me to another site. oops-sorry about that. |
B_R, I am sooo jealous. 'Nuf said.
|
:( Hancock is closing many of their stores, but not all of them. They closed the store near my house in Douglasville, Georgia in May. I really don't know how they chose which stores would close, but it could not have been the one with the least business, because the one by house was always busy. Is Walmart taking fabric out of all of their stores? I had heard that they were taking it out earlier, but because it was still there thought they had changed their mind. With all of these stores getting rid of fabric-that will give Joann fabric an open-door to raise prices. Hope that doesn't happen.
|
I like your little quote on the end about God being perfect but our quilts don't have to be. Thank goodness for that. ha.
|
I don't have much to add today but, since the title of the thread is "HEY PATRICE", i figured i might as well say hello.
