Okay - ya'll may be doing this, but I just realized maybe not everyone has thought of it!!! :mrgreen:

When I'm cutting a pattern that has lots of cuts, I copy the fabric cutting guide (instructions) and use the copy as a guide. Every time I make a cut, I check off that line. It's sure helped this poor old mind remember what the heck I've done....especially if I get interrupted!!!! :thumbup:

on edit: from reading below it reminded me. I always write which fabric for each cut. If I have 3 colors of fabric, I decide which ones get which cuts. Especially if you're changing out the colors...it's just too easy to get mixed up.

When I was making my BOM for Pam Bono's "Pieces of Baltimore" (with almost 5,000 pieces in the quilt & some of those were tiny!) - that is what we did with the patterns each block. We would have gotten lost otherwise! Plus you didn't mess up your pattern just in case you wanted to make one of the same blocks for a different quilt in different colors. Kept our BOM patterns and the working copies in a 3-ring binder.

Yes I do that too - actually I have to or else I get lost.

Great idea, I always take a picture of each fabric and then make a swatch card out of it, you can even do this in Paint which comes standard with Windows! Then I write next to it what needs to be cut from that fabric.
I just got done photographing 15 fabrics for a bargello I am getting ready to start! this way I know which fabric I wanted in which spot!

I even make a spreadsheet on the computer for the cutting and on the word processor, I rewrite the instructions in a step-by-step method that makes sense to me.

Learned this the hard way!

I always do this too. I like to keep my patterns as original as possible. The price we pay for them. I like them to be nice awhile.
