A friend of my mother is 80 yrs old and has decided she wants to do oil paintings. So in order to fund her new interest she was selling off her quilting stash. I was allowed to dig and was given a private lesson on Cathedral windows. I thought I got a pretty good deal for $100.

Yeah for you getting the fabric and the elderly lady for taking up a new hobby. I wanna be like that when I am 80, too.

Jingle 07-04-2010 09:12 PM

The fabric is all very pretty and you should be able to make some beautiful quilts. I love most of the colors, if not all of them.

kwiltkrazy 07-05-2010 07:16 PM

wow, looks like a great haul. And a lesson too. Cathedral windows is great, did you learn to do it by hand or on machine?

leatheflea 07-06-2010 01:56 AM

She showed me to sew the large square by machine then, the window by hand. But after her little class I did my online research and found a quicker and easier way. It was still a great 3 hrs spent went a vetren quilter that I'll always remember.

mlaceruby 07-06-2010 03:17 AM

OOH a scrappy quilt in the making!

Lorraine babuick 07-06-2010 01:25 PM

Lucky lady. Wish it was me.
Had to laugh this past weekend, my girlfriend from high school days came for a visit with her 85 year old mom who is a quilter. When Mrs. Black saw my fabric collection she gasped and said "you could likely do with a quarter of this!!!!" My answer was."I likely could but I have more fun with this much to chose from".

Great find. Cathedral windows are very time consuming, but you can take it with you and work on it in small increments. I wish I was you.
