I recently received a catalog from Connecting Threads... the Hobbs batting seems to be a good price... and can be delivered to the home if i spend 50.00... just wondering if any of you use their's... i ususally get Joann's with coupon, but am tired of trying to juggle the time frames... i should just bite the bullet and buy a huge roll, but not quite ready for that yet... so any commets will be appreciated... thanks... Barbara :D

Hey Barbara, I can only speak on the fusible Hobbs, and I like it alot. I do QAYG alot and it works out great for my projects. Its also repositionable so if I need to un-stick and adjust its no problem. CT puts in on sale alot too.
|
i use their fusible a lot. 80/20. it comes in a package and sticks together. you have to unstick it as you open the roll. that's the main thing i dislike about it. they should roll it up with paper inbetween.

My Joann's doesn't carry Hobbs 80/20 any longer, it does have Fairfield 80/20 which I don't care for. I need to order a certain fabric from Conn. Threads and think I'll add a few packages of Hobbs batting to my order so I can get the free shipping. May in Jersey

I have been wondering too!
|
I use Hobbs 80/20 and I like it. I buy it from my LQS. The owner is great and guaranteed if I didn't like it she would refund my money.
|
I love Hobbs 80/20 but no one around carries it anymore. I may have to order some when I get my income tax rebate.
|
I have used Hobbs. I love the poly down for a wash and wear quilt for it's puff. I use wool in all my own quilts.
Kingsmen Quilting has rolls. I like them because if I only need 70", I cut 70", so I don't have a lot of waste. Kingsmen quote you a shipping price but bill you what it costs. So here in Wisconsin the shipping is pretty cheap, never what the initial amount that is given says. Oh what a coincidence. On PBS they are showing how Hobbs makes it. |
Hobbs batting is made in Waco, TX, and is a big favorite with LQS in the state. It was the ONLY batting I used for years and years.....cotton 80/20, Thermore, organic cotton, and their wool I love!

I like Hobbs 80/20 batting for both hand and machine quilting. It has a soft drape which I like.
|
I like Hobbs, 20/80 and have had no issues. I have made 3 king-sized quilts using Hobbs and no complaints.
|
I really like Hobbs Polydown batting and use it for all my user friendly quilts that will be washed often. The batting is uniform, quilts easily, washes and wears extremely well. The quilt police may snicker about it but it is just plain good batting and is 108" wide which means I don't have to piece it unless the quilt is a monster.

I have ordered batting from Quilted Memories LLC Online Store and they have bolt of 10 yrd there batting is quit reasonable get on there mailing list and they send out notices when it is on sale
|
Thanks for all the information. I'll look for it.
|
i stock up on batts from connecting threads every time they go on sale- i love their batts and i get a better price than at joannes and alot less hassle- i hate going to joannes- my least favorite place on earth...

Still considering myself a newbie, but I've come to like Hobbs Bleached 100% cotton rather than the Warm & Natural/White from JoAnn's. It's a little lighter weight for our southern climate and I think a softer drape, too. Connecting Threads only has Hobbs unbleached so I wait til Hancock's has a free shipping offer or sale and get several batts of the bleached.
Maybe I'm missing the boat....so many folks are using Hobbs 80/20. What is the advantage of using that over all cotton? |
thank you all.... there is nothing like "testimonials" to be sure your not going to get stung!!! I don't mind spending my money... i just like to be sure before i spend!!! LOL... and YES,,, around here JoAnn's is about the only place, and it's such a PITA.... service stinks.. and it just seems to be the same old, same old.. me being a bargain shopper... it's just not fun.. so i only by from a discount place nearer Boston,,,, (truth, be told.. i should only need "solids"... cause i've got so many prints from collecting over the years.. soooooooooothank you all... i'm off to work on the "Mickey Quilt"... hehehe
