Hobbs Wool Batting
 

I have purchased a king sized package of this batting. It is very wrinkled with small well defined folds upon opening the packaged. There are no instructions on the package as to how to prepare for sandwiching. So I am appealing to all you knowledgeable people to inform me how to get out the wrinkles and make is desireable to use. Thank you for helping.

I have heard of throwing cotton batting in the dryer, but not sure about wool

You could lay the batting out on a bed, lightly spray mist the folds with water, and let air dry. If your dryer is big enough so the batting does not need to be stuffed into it, you can place it in the dryer for 20 minutes (with or without lightly spray misting the folds first). Hobbs wool now has a max shrinkage of 3%, which is similar to cotton batting, so it can be treated in a very similar manner to cotton batting.

The Hobbs web site says that you can place the batting in the drier for 5 to 10 minutes with a damp washcloth to remove creases or wrinkles. This is one of the FAQ's that doesn't specify what kind of batting, so it should apply to all of them. I did this with my Hobbs wool batt and it worked great.

Did you use "air fluff" setting or a heat setting when you put the wool batt in the dryer for 5-10 minutes with a damp washcloth? Thanks.

Never have sewn with Hobbs but if you are concerned about wear and tear from tumbling in a dryer, Jill Schumacher (a star pupil of Diane Gaudynski & Harriet Hargrave who quilts almost exclusively with Hobbs wool) said in a recent class that all you have to do is unfold the bat and lay it out on a bed for a couple of days and the wrinkles and creases will disappear.

this is what I did and worked great. I love my wool batted quilt. use it summer and winter.

One of the benefits of wool batting is that it does not hold a permanent crease. So if you lay it out for a few days after a light misting the wrinkles and creases should fall out. I ususally don't have that much space to use for a long period so I toss mine into the dryer for a few minutes and it comes out very nice. You'll love the wool batting, by the way. I too use mine all year round.
