A HL is in the works about 15 miles from me......waiting patiently....closer than the one I go to now! But not often, hope that will change as soon as this opens its doors!

tessagin 10-06-2014 04:47 AM

Yes. If you check your coupons look carefully for the coupons that say "one cut". I try to make it the largest piece I need. I bought 3 yards at 7.99 yard so at 40%. $14.39.

Some stores chose not to carry certain things because if they can't sell alot of it, it cost them money and they pass that loss onto the customers. Like my LQS, while they sell lots of Viking and Phaff machines, they didn't do too many sergers. They quit selling them because it was cost efficient for them to carry them. I got the last one they had, it would have sold for over 1200 and I paid 300 for it. The store just couldn't justify taking up space selling something that wasn't moving. Now the store in Richmond, has lots of sergers. Have you asked the store about ordering some of the fabrics you want. Sometimes if there is a request they'll honor it. Worth a try

Sewfine 10-06-2014 05:35 AM

Yes, they does have good quality fabric. You can also print a 40% coupon and use that toward the purchase of one item. They also carry the wide quilt backing fabric.

mmb195152 10-06-2014 05:43 AM

I have had excellent service and products in every Hobby Lobby I have gone to. My grandson was adopted 5 years ago. I made a quilt for his bed out of Hobby Lobby fabrics. That is where I found fabric I liked. It has been washed and used all these years, and has held up well. I could not have afforded to make it from LQS material. Don't think it would have held up any better.

reginalovesfabric 10-06-2014 06:15 AM

if their fabric if 30% off and you have the 40% coupon ask them to put it back to the original price you want to use the coupon and they will, hancock fabric won't do that

I don't shop there anymore either but I loved their fabric. Nice women in the fabric department who quilted and helped me out.

carolynjo 10-06-2014 07:41 AM

I have loved HL in years past, but due to their recent political interference, I will not shop there any more.

rosiewell 10-06-2014 07:41 AM

I have one about 20 minutes away, but their fabric section is very small and the household stuff is huge!

danlynmartin 10-06-2014 07:46 AM

You can only use that 40 off coupon on regular priced cloth. Some and I repeat some will charge you the full price on things so you can you use the 40 off. Beware! This changes from store to store!

Vitality 10-06-2014 07:52 AM

Never been to a Hobby Lobby… there is a pretty big one nearby. I won't shop there because of "what they stand for."
I go to Joann's, or LQS, or online… depending on what I am looking to buy.

Well, I guess we will have to agree to disagree there. I haven't found anything about them I don't like!

Tudey 10-06-2014 08:04 AM

You can also shop HL online and get a lot of different fabric. I got some Alexander Henry and some Kaufman---very good quality in the brand names. Plus a good return policy if you are dissatisfied

lpbrightwell 10-06-2014 09:27 AM

We are discussing fabric and the love of quilting not your political stance on a business you are obviously uninformed about please stick quilting as this is what the forum is for.

Pennyhal 10-06-2014 09:32 AM

As with most big stores, I need to judge the fabric as quality will vary from bolt to bolt. Some mfgs. make a lower quality fabric for discount stores, but not all. I hold it up to the light and if I can see through it, I don't buy it. But nowadays, I've felt so many fabrics, I can usually tell just by fee.

bakermom 10-06-2014 10:26 AM

I have mixed feelings-i have used their fabric with no problem but get annoyed at the coupons policy. 1 per day doesn't help if I am trying to buy yarn for a project when it's not on sale. 1 skein at a time just doesn't cut it. I feel much of their stuff is overpriced when it isn't on sale. While using coupons at Joanns can be frustrating at times, they will use as many as they can for you.

VernaL 10-06-2014 10:57 AM

We have a newer one in our area, and they have a big selection of fabric. But, the quality isn't very good. I don't usually buy fabric there, but sometimes I shop at JoAnn's. Their less expensive fabrics are better than what our HL has. But, so many quilt stores in our area have closed that I always try to support our local quilt store. I often shop at eQuilter.com because they have just about everything I search for. Don't like HL social policies either.

purplefiend 10-06-2014 12:44 PM

Hobby Lobby has good fabric, just be careful that what you choose has a soft hand(how it feels). If you choose a fabric that feels stiff, it won't get any better ever; even if you wash and dry it.

I love HL and their fabric! Two of my show quilts are from their fabric. I like to support businesses that are Christian and run their store that way!

MCH 10-06-2014 03:43 PM

HL is closed on Sundays...

nise 10-06-2014 04:28 PM

I don't like what they stand for, so I don't shop there either

coopah 10-06-2014 05:56 PM

Welcome to the land of HLobby! It's a place that is addiciting!
Edited for spelling.

Colorful1 I don't understand your comment. About the fabric, I like the quality of most of Hobby Lobby's fabric. Not everyone can afford to shop at most LQS's. $12.99 and above just doesn't fit into my budget. If the LQS were the only place I could purchase fabric, I would have to quit quilting. Just my humble opinion.

Twinkie, As another poster stated, their "social policies" drove me away.*
I agree w your comment about price points. I primarily shop JoAnn's and thrift shops, and support LQS (few & far between) when they have sales.

Jim 10-06-2014 06:28 PM

We love HOBBY LOBBY. I don't care what their policies are, I don't have to agree with anyone's policies and they don't have to agree with mine. We get great deals there, my wife and I both have the HOBBY LOBBY app on our iphones so we go through line seperately and get two items for 40% off. At ALL the HOBBY LOBBY's here, we ask for the fabric at full price and then we get 40% off the fabric, instead of 30%

NEWS FLASH- HL is now carrying 108" wide backing fabric!!!!!!!!! Price is $12 but 40% off coupon can be used on entire cut!!!!!

I sure hope this means ALL HL will be selling it!

I totally agree--I don't do business with any company that uses religion as a marketing tool--seems so un Christ like.

I totally agree, this is a quilting forum not a political forum...Please lets stick to fabric & quilting. Friends & politics do not mix!

Actually--the thread started as an endorsement for Hobby Lobby.

Here in Texas years ago there was a thing called "The Texas Blue Law" all stores but grocery were to be closed on Sunday's unless they chose a different day of the week to be closed. Most stuck with the closed Sundays whether it was for religious belief or not I don't know, but I am glad the "Blue" law isn't in effect any longer.

Yes I seen that & knew what was coming along with the talk of fabric.

Nan C 10-06-2014 07:42 PM

They are great.....and you should be able to find anything you need. Glad you enjoyed it. Happy quilting :)

They're opening one in my area soon and I do not believe I will be shopping there, either. .

ScrappyAZ 10-07-2014 05:53 AM

I also cannot afford to always shop at my LQS. Although I love the quality of LQS fabrics, I have been happy with Hobby Lobby fabrics for small projects or if I need "filler" fabrics. I did find some really cute mermaid fabric at HL earlier this summer.

Vitality 10-07-2014 06:33 AM

Glad to see there are a number of people on this thread who are taking their business elsewhere! :)

mojo11 10-07-2014 07:52 AM

I, too, love Hobby Lobby and what they stand for!

wishfulthinking 10-07-2014 03:06 PM

I love Hobby Lobby and what they stand for! It's so refreshing to see a business that sticks to it's belief's and stands up for them.

gale 10-08-2014 01:13 PM

I love Hobby Lobby and agree with their practices so I shop there often. Not as often as I'd like, though, since they're an hour away.

gale 10-08-2014 01:14 PM

Also, a lot of people don't really know the extent of the situation and say Hobby Lobby doesn't provide any xxx when in fact they do provide plenty of xxx. Just not every xxx available.

QUILTNMO 10-08-2014 02:55 PM

we just got a hobby lobby opened tues i went today i agree great fabric and prices!!
