We finally received our shipment of Hoffman 3-D fabrics - what fun! Yes, they did come with a few sets of 3-D glasses so that we could enjoy the full effect.

And then, of course, being the fabric junkies that we are, the rush was on to see what OTHER fabrics also have that 3-D effect.

Surprisingly, there is a clear answer to this! We looked at a fabric by Timeless Treasures, with puzzle pieces in blue, cyan, green, yellow, and red all tossed on a black background. And sure enough, some of the colors seemed to "float" above the surface of the fabric varying amounts. The red seemed closest, then the yellow; the green was just a little bit up, and the cyan and blue were "normal" in that they didn't seem to be coming closer at all.

And this was true-to-form with the Hoffman fabrics. The three of them had warm colored objects against a cool background, and with the glasses on those objects did seem to come closer.

Now, why do I get the feeling that any kid under the age of 8 would already have known all this, intuitively?

Just wanted to say that I was born and raised in Tonawanda, really close to you! Left there a long time ago but visit family there once in a while.

I think they would be great except that I can't see the 3D images like that or in movies because I only see with one eye so images don't change for me.

I'm laughing as I picture walking into your quilt store and all the employees are wearing 3D glasses!!
I'm not sure I get the point of 3D fabric--do you wear the glasses when you use the quilt? Would be fun for any kids quilts.

Live in TN - where can I see Kaufman's 3D fabric?

My DD has Coats disease (not life threatening at all) so can't see out of one eye I made one lens half blue and half red. She can see the 3D images. I don't know if what she sees is what I see but she says it works.

Other than just the fun factor... and because nobody's marketed fabric with 3D glasses before... could be it's just the novelty of the concept. Kids might wear 3D glasses to better enjoy their quilt (or pajamas).

I should mention that even without the glasses, the 3D fabrics look perfectly fine and normal. You don't need to be wearing glasses to appreciate the fabrics.

And you're right, janRN, we would just be goofy enough to declare a "3D Glasses Day" in the shop! We do know how to have a pretty good time, all the while calling it "work". :D
