I thought of this the other day when I was mailing a birthday quilt to a very dear friend. The UPS guy asked if I wanted to purchase more insurance. ( I guess UPS covers up to $100) I told him it was a handmade/homemade quilt, so I really didn't know how to value it. The lady in line behind me said "it is priceless" But it got me to wondering...I piece and quilt my quilts on my sewing machine, so I guess that is homemade as opposed to hand made which is all done by hand. What do you think?

it is made in your home by your hands. so it would be home made with your hands.

I have debated this too. This is my take on it. Hand sewn is when a quilter does it all by hand no sewing machine used. Hand made is when the quilter does it on the machine. Hand made as opposed to a premade quilt bought at Walmart

Yes, I agree fully. It is HAND MADE by your own hands, cut out, put together and sewed with your hands on the machine and your brains controlling it, so it is hand made.

I agree - handmade at home!

I will need to mail a king size soon. Are you saying they only insure up to $100! I have way over $200 invested in fabric/batting alone! I was hoping to insure at $500!

I agree! Before I started quilting a few years ago, I made clothes, and baby clothes and toys, etc.
Nobody in my family "dissed" anything bc I made it on a sewing machine instead of sewing a whole garment with a needle and thread!
I consider my machine pieced blocks hand made, just not hand sewn.
I have several chronic health disorders and could never make a large quilt all with a needle. They are still treasures to me :-D

handmade means you made it not a factory-machine work is still handmade -to me anyway
