Homespun quilt pattern

I am looking for a pattern that uses homespun fabrics. I do not want to make a rag quilt. Does anyone know of a source where I can get the pattern? Willing to pay for the pattern.

Thanks
Carmen

You might try Primitive Gatherings. They have several quilts in their store using homespuns.

I have made a couple using homespuns. Sorry I don't remember the names of them. First one I think was called Kansas Troubles. Can't remember second one.
(Sorry for bad display for second one. Bed being used at the moment and have no other place to spread out. First pic was taken at a cabin we stayed at during Christmas, where you BYO linens.)

I saw the most wonderful New York Beauty made entirely out of home spun materials. It was a great guy quilt. In my mind, any quilt pattern that has small pieces can be made of home spun material. Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville has a lot of free patterns. You could do simple pinwheels or 4 patches with a constant background color. The sky's the limit.

I suggested this one before when another quilter wanted to use checks/homespuns.
It's a Bonnie Hunter pattern Pineapple Blossom

I saw a beautiful simple pattern using homespun fabrics on Pinterest, I have the image saved but don't know how to show it here. I have a collection of homespun fabrics and plan on using them in that pattern.

I think just about any traditional pattern can be done with homespuns. Log cabins, Sawtooth star, Maple leaf, square in a square, churn dash, 9 patch, the list is endless. One of our members did a fabulous pineapple quilt using mens shirts.

I did a cat quilt using homespuns:

If you google images of "homespun quilts" you will get loads of ideas and also go to Bonnie Hunter's website for even more ideas. http://quiltville.blogspot.com/

I think the key is, whatever pattern you pick make sure you have a good strong contrast in value. Ynglady's and Chester the bunny have posted excellent examples of how striking they can be mixed with a light solid as well.

For those who have made homespun quilts - did you wash and dry them first? Use any starch? I have some I'd like to use (love that pineapple quilt!), but don't know how to handle them.

Great ideas. I agree with feline fanatic...about anything goes. If I can figure out how to post....I'll show a star sampler I did with homespuns That might be sometime next week....

Hello Carmen, in Western Australia Homespun is 100% plain coloured cotton fabric sold in all fabric shops so any pattern requiring plain pieces will do; I use it all the time, and use it for backings.

I did wash all of the fabric because the most of the colors are fairly dark and was worried about bleeding although I don't recall it being a problem. It does have a bit of a looser weave so I used a shorter stitch. You could benefit from some starch, however I did not use it. I think if you were making HST you would definitely need it. Hope that helps.

I am drawn to the Slanted Stars in Bonnie Hunter's quilt, Smokey Mountain Stars, and have a supply of homespun that was given to me. I have pre-washed it and will iron it well before cutting. Another simple pattern I like is Friendship Star in any setting.

what wonderful "home spun" quilts. I've never used home spuns, afraid of the quality, they seem so flimsy.

I made my husband a Disappearing 9 Patch quilt using homespuns. Came out great and he loves it.

I made a wonky Irish chain with homespuns. It's still waiting for the second border.
