Homespuns

have received several pieces of homespun fabrics various sizes, colors, etc. What would be a good pattern to use this type fabric in? (I am trying the bulls eye - circle...and have a lot left over we will see if I can do it - a lot of work and well)... Anyway - I know this fabric was used a very long time ago and would like to have suggestions for pattern to us it in? Most of mine is checks, strips, typical homespun look. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

My mom has a bunch she's going to use in a raw edge rag quilt- I think that's what they're called, you stack a few squares up and sew them so the raw seam edges are on the front of the quilt and fray and fluff up. Like this: http://jubileehomespun.com/Project_I..._Homespun.html

I bought a lot of Homespun fabric and it unravels so much.

I made a rag quilt for my daughter and son in law for Christmas out of homespun fabric, 24 different patterns I ordered. Sure wish I had found someone who had some leftovers!!

I always use homespun for my rag quilts.

A classic old type pattern of stars, etc is great for homespuns. If you wish the fabric to look old people usually sew it before washing the fabric. Then once done, you wash the quilt and the fabric shrinks and looks all weathered. Very effective if it's the look you want. Also since homespuns ravel more I would use a wider seam allowance than 1/4 inch for piecing.
Have fun.

I would check out Quilters Cache, she has lots of patterns using plaids, etc., perfect for homespuns - you could even use several of her blocks and make it sampler-style - just don't forget to show us when it's done!

They make great rag quilts, but I also use them right along with my cottons in scrappy quilts.

I'm collecting some; due to budget it'll be quite a while before I get enough homespun to do the job but I want to make a French Braid quilt. I'm including the link that I've book marked so you can see it. I wouldn't have thought it would be so pretty if I hadn't seen it.
