It seems off-balance to me because the four really dark blades are not placed "evenly" around the plate.

I think I would use five really dark blades and place them every fourth one around. Five instesd of four to avoid the compass look.

But this opinion might be my ocd showing.

I think the issue is that it's not falling into either category. If 10-12(depending on how you see them) are purple/blue, then it seems more like a controlled scrappy. But the colors added to them seem random and not that helpful. If you take them out, the purple/blue looks very different.

if you are going for true scrappy, it would seem better to add more color groups and rebalance.

hope that helps,
Charlotte

I think the colors need to be mixed up more. It looks like the majority of the lights are on top and the majority of the darks are on the bottom. Mix them up more.

That is essentially what I was going to say. You will probably always think it needed something else.

I like it. I have a hard time making a neutral quilt. They are very appropriate so much of the time. Not every quilt has to pop or shout out, "Look at me". What color is your background going to be? Before you start resewing, audition as many colors as you can for the background and centers. Think outside the box. What about a black with white print (heavy black, very little white) for the centers or an animal print, or a fussy cut tiger if it's to be a guy quilt? Sometimes a very white BG makes the petals pop.

The 4 darks are are not evenly spaced, causing it to be unbalanced. As far as colors, it is fine....I like scrappy.

Yellow is what it needs, but I have yellow floral furniture........

To me, scrappy is scrappy. It shouldn't have to be balanced, and it certainly shouldn't be analyzed and agonized over. When a bunch of these Dresdens, using a lot of different fabrics, are put together the viewer's eye will travel around and over and back again, and I for one will love it.

Looks good to me. You have a variety of lights and darks.
