When hand quilting small items, do you use a hoop or frame?

A Hoop. I prefer my large oval hoop. I would like to get a square one or, or get the bar that goes across the round hoop for borders.

No hoop. I'd like to get a floor stand hoop, or one of the lap hoops on a stand...the big simple hoop I have is difficult to manage by itself!

No hoop. I must have one like Charlee-too big to balance and quilt on without a floor stand. I drape the quilt over my (lowered) ironing board to support the weight and quilt away without a hoop.

I use a hoop. Either a 12 or 14". They're very managable.

Hoop, I am repairing a large, old, Amish quilt and I still like the hoop. It doesn't take up much space and it's easy to use.

I use a 14" lap hoop for all my handquilting, small or large. Currently has a queen size occupying it. Have done a king and full size as well. I have a big oval hoop for tying T-shirt quilts. Anything bigger than 14" I feel I can't get close enough to hand quilt.

I handquilt using a hoop that is on a stand that I can sit in my lap. I really like it because I can use it while sitting in my lounge chair with my feet up and watch TV. I use it for big and small quilts.

No hoop........tried them....don't like them. I can go much faster without one.

I have an Amish made floor-stand hoop that is 22 inches in diameter. (bought it in Shipshewana, Indiana a year ago) I absolutely love it. It has a beautiful finish and looks like furniture. I started with a hand held 14 inch round hoop but it was so cumbersome for me that I was always getting a stiff neck. I bought a new Grace frame which is in an upstairs bedroom and I love it too. I prefer the Amish hoop for the lap size/baby quilts, but the large Grace frame for bigger quilts.
