Horn of America 5280 Sewing Cabinet
 

I finally received and set up my new Horn cabinet. DH wanted to get better casters that wouldn't damage our laminate flooring. They are very nice. Worth the wait to get it set up. Let me know if you would like more information about the casters.

If you have this cabinet or something similar, I'd be interested in seeing pictures of how you use the space under the machine and/or under the extension table (if you leave it up). Looks like a lot of usable space to me!

That is a nice ca*bin*et. Does it have the machine lift too? The small drawer cabinet would be nice for storage of smaller items.

What type of casters did you use? It is so much easier to move tables, etc when you have good casters on them.

Rhonda ~ I did get the drawers, too. The casters are rubber. DH ordered them from Service Caster Corporation.

I get those automatic links, too. Seems like I discovered how to stop it once, but now it's happening again. It's some kind of advertising, I think (of course).

I would really like specifics on your new castors. Did you have to alter the cabinet to get them to fit? Thank you.

I have the 3280 except mine was made of real wood by the Amish and much cheaper in price. My casters also lock so cabinet doesn't move when sewing. I wouldn't add anymore to it if I were you.

Cats8 ~ Service Caster Corporation website. Choose "chair and furniture caster" category. From there you will see links to how to measure caster stems, a phone number to call or you can send a sample of your existing caster for them to identify. The type that we bought is called Softech. It's hardwood floor safe with thermoplastic rubber tread. You can choose wheel size, etc. DH talked to Bradley Rhodes on the phone.

We did not make any alterations to the cabinet. They popped right in.

Izeider ~ In all my web surfing, I certainly didn't see anything about Amish cabinets, but they probably don't do the internet, so not really any option for me. We did not add anything, just replaced the casters with softer ones for our flooring. We did order locking ones.

I live in Indiana Amish Country. My Hubby found the Amish Cabinet Maker because he did not want particle board. Felt it was to pricey and decided to surprise me with Warm Maple.

Izeider ~ I'll bet your cabinet is wonderful! What a great surprise! We like quality, too, and did price out what a custom sewing cabinet would cost, but it was prohibitive from the dealer we talked to.

A friend of mine has the same cabinet that I got which she has had for years and years. Her DH did comment yesterday on what good quality he feels it is. Of course, most of us would prefer all wood, although I still want to add some "slicker" topping to mine. I'm thinking about the peel and stick marble-look "shelf" paper. A friend's DD put it on her kitchen counter. I was so surprised at how great it looks, but not really sure how it will hold up. In any event, it doesn't cost much and would peel right off if I didn't like it. Probably worth a try.

Here it is all set up. I found some great plastic drawer sets (price and size were perfect).

Now I just need to decide on lighting ... table light, floor light, clamp-on ??
