Great idea; I have some kitchen towels that are very worn; great idea to recycle. I do recycle as much as i can (which is why I have TOO much. I hate to throw things away. Wonder if worn mattress pads would work also?

The only thing I buy for pot holders is the insularity. The rest is all scraps or left overs from other projects. I use templates that my Mom made years ago for the designs. Hadn't thought of old towels for filler but going to try that as I have a "few" of them. So many good ideas come from this board!

I used to use the toweling for the inside of my potholders. I have so much of the batting left over from quilts now I use a couple layers of that and one of insulbright. I have noticed that the more you quilt them, the thinner they become, so you don't want to hold onto the hot dish from the oven too long. My favorite pattern is a heart that has pockets you put your fingers and thumb into. I feels so stable I just love that. I can't remember the name of it.

I forgot to say that old silver iron board fabric works great too on the part that touches the pots. If you wear out part of the cover and want to use it for the outside of your pot holder. I am pretty sure they sell it by the yard too.

When I first starting quilting in 1988, I used old flannel shirts and flannel bathrobes in my placemats.
