I'm thinking about going to Houston in November for the International Show. Has anyone gone? Good? Huge? As great as I think it will be? Classes will be out soon, I need to decide. Thanks

It's great, I live in Houston so I've got to go several times. You need at least two days and some very comfortable walking shoes.

It is FANTASTIC! Go, wear comfortable shoes, and clothing, have your cash and credit cards, camera with fresh batteries - and go with someone who enjoys quilts also

HUGE, GREAT, WONDERFUL, FANTASTIC. You will love it. Must have comfy shoes and lots of $$$. It is so much fun. So many beautiful things to see.

I live outside Houston and work downtown, and it is well worth the trip. Check around with your local LQSs and see if anyone is sponsoring a tour bus. My sister did that last year from Missouri, and the fare included one night stay in a hotel on the road each way, plus the night stay in Houston, and several meals. If you do plan to come, make your hotel reservations now, especially if you want to stay in the downtown area. There is good bus service all around downtown, with at least 5 routes that go right by the George R. Brown Convention Center.
If you have a mobility problem, you can rent a Scoot-A-Round. I've done that for the last 3 years, and it is well worth the $$$. Otherwise, as sewgray said, wear your most comfortable shoes. Plan to spend one day viewing the quilts and one day visiting the vendors. You will love it if you're a gadget junkie (like me), because you get to see the latest stuff. |
AWESOME - even for non quilters.

It is an amazing show. I have been several times and would love to go this year, but my oldest daughter will be getting married the following week. So the timing is not good for me. I am sure I will be going in 2011. Once you go, you will want to go again. Well worth the trip....oh and like everyone else said wear comfy shoes :D

It is a wonderful show. All the advice you have gotten is good. One more thing I would add is that if you are interested in taking any classes be sure to register early because they fill up.
I hope you have a wonderful time here in our town. I know that you will love the show. :-D |
I hope you can handle the traffic...I can't! WHEW!

Another helpful hint, if you are driving. Use the valet parking. It costs around $10-$15 for the day, which is what you would pay for parking at any lot in the vicinity of the GRB, but after a day of being on your feet, it is great to sit and wait for someone to bring your car right to you.
