I just finished a changing pad for a friend's baby. I quilted around the doggies in the print, but have lots of puckering between the dogs. Is there a way to avoid this when quilting small projects by hand? My quilting hoop is too big, and I tried to just stretch it straight by hand

I've seen someone on TV (maybe Alex Anderson) baste a piece of fabric like muslin to the edge of small projects to help them fit into the hoop for quilting.

I use an embroidery hoop for small projects and around the edges of larger ones.

Thanks -- that is a good idea!

Spray basting helps. I've also used the embroidery hoop.
