How is the best way to piece this quilt?

I ran across this beautiful patriotic quilt by accident and haven't been able to find any pattern for it. Would I have to piece it row by row? Maybe make 9-patch blocks? Thanks for any suggestions.

It looks like 4 patches for the star centers; HST's for the star points. You might be able to do some strips of multi colors for the background, similar to how to do the strips for an irish chain quilt. You could probably make those strips varying lengths to make up equal rows and then build from there.

I'm sure someone else will come along and explain it better!

Looks like all squares and hst. Placement probably laid on on graph paper or EQ. The various shades of each of the colors give it great depth.

I would graph it out and then sew four patches. It is a pretty nice quilt

I agree with the others -- definitely 4-patches. Sew 4 pieces together, then 4 of those blocks together.

Get out the graph paper and colored pencils. As the others have said, looks like HST and 4-patches.

I would approach this in a different way.
First I would print it out.
Then I would count the squares across and then down, noting that the picture does not include the first couple of rows.
Next, decide how big you want your squares to be to make the size you want.
Next, I would draw around the larger stars so that I could piece those as a single block.
Then, I would make the fill-in blocks and the outer border rows.

Probably more info than you needed. I really look forward to seeing your finished pieced top.

I just saw a lot of squares, assuming that they are 2" finished. I am a controlled scrappy quilter so I just would start laying out squares and make sure they balanced. Then add in the HSTs.

Great ideas. I will combine them and use them ALL. I can see why 4-patch blocks is the way to go. If I had to do it row by row, I would have passed on making this quilt. Next step will be a graph paper drawing and figuring out how much yardage I need to buy to augment what scraps I already have. Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't even attempt that quilt unless I had good detailed instructions! You ladies must be very accomplished to even consider this quilt without a pattern!
