I was just hand sewing the underside of the binding on my first quilt when I noticed that there is a 1 1/2 inch gap between my sashing and the border. The quilt is already professionally quilted which means that I can't get 'inside' to sew the seam. I tried overcasting the seam and it looked so awful that I ripped it out. Any ideas about how I can correct this error. In the future, I'll examine my work much more carefully before quilting or having it quilted. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I'm also waiting for someone more expert than I to answer this, just in case it happens to me at some time in the future.

Can you applique something over it?

Can you post a picture for us of the spot and the whole quilt? It would be easier to give suggestions if we can see it :D:D:D

Depending on what the fabrics are and the design is can you get a piece under it and fold the edges down kinda lika reverse applique? Would that be too noticable? I know it would be to you right now but to others, in the future? How wide is the gap?

Maybe a bit of fabric glue or fusible?

I have just had the same problem. Too late to unpick, so I am going to put an applique over it. The quilt has a lot of applique flowers on it, so I am going to do a butterfly over the offending bit

You can take out some of the quilted stitches, pull the pieces together and 'sew' them with liquid stitch then use the same color thread used by the quilter and restitch on your home machine. Liquid stitch is available at WM and is permanent. It should be easy to follow the stitch holes left by the quilting machine to restitch pretty much in the same place. Good luck, I know how frustrating that is.
