How to cope with 'odd' width Bali Pops or other strips
 

I found this while looking for something else on the Hoffman site. Brenda Henning has a new book, Strip Thearpy 5, that has her solution for the sometimes odd widths of Hoffman Bali Pops (or any other strips). She has let Hoffman put that page up on their website so here it is. Pretty easy solution, take a look.

Lands, I've done this for years with cut strips, long before the invention of manufacturer cut strip sets, as most of us can have 'some' error in cutting. maybe today we cut heavy and the next day we cut light......I'm talking about how we might angle the blade against the ruler, slightly to the left /, or slightly to the right \.

You know that sticky note pad I'm always mentioning for accurate 1/4" seams? Just place one to the left of the strips as well as the right of the presser foot.

I agree, Jan, I've adjusted seam allowances for years as well, but lots of members haven't. I thought her presentation was clear and might be of some help to others. No harm done.

It's a good presentation - and would never have occurred to me on my own to do that.

However, I keep wondering WHY should I have to compensate for waviness - especially on purchased items?

Oh, where was this last week?????? LOL! I just did a strip quilt and used a Robert Kaufman jelly roll and a Moda Bella Solids jelly roll and some 2 1/2" strips I cut myself! There was a difference in all 3! Thanks for posting this tip!!

I think this is an excellent tutorial for how to deal with strips that I didn't cut quite right, which has been known to happen. But I see no reason why I should have to learn to "deal with" strips that a manufacturer didn't cut quite right. Those shouldn't be sold, IMHO. If a strip is as much as 1/8" too narrow (as stated in the article) that means my seam allowance will be only 1/8", and that's not acceptable. Why would I spend the money that Bali pops are commanding to wind up with a 1/8" seam allowance?
