Years ago I painted some Deco Peacocks, inspired by Alfonse Mucha. I painted them on a denim vest to wear to the painting conventions I use to work at.

I got rid of some clothing but decided to cut these peacocks out and use them in a crazy quilt, since it was a lot of hours that went into creating them, (I have two Peacocks). So, I made this 49 by 49 crazy thing.

I was going to sew up all the scraps I had at the moment and then cut blocks out of the larger piece. Well, it was good while it lasted and away it went in the drawer with the other block that I used up lately.

Here it is the way it looks now. I haven't decided if I am going to cut it into blocks or add stuff to it. I put a couple crazy circles on it and would cut what's behind it out, if I do that.

Or I can cut out the peacock as a block.

I made a frame out of paper and framed a couple blocks to see what it would look like at 12 inches

The whole piece

Wow, I really like them.

Rosyhf 09-21-2010 02:16 PM

It's so crazy lol.

leatheflea 09-21-2010 02:16 PM

Fabulous work, I love them!

amma 09-21-2010 02:20 PM

I love each one, especially with the circles! You are very creative :D:D:D

Rosyhf 09-21-2010 02:21 PM

Ok, what do you ladies like? the entire piece, the first pic, or parts of it cut into blocks, like where the paper frame is.

amma 09-21-2010 02:22 PM

The second to the last picture with the circles...
maybe add a little more bling, and then frame it :D:D:D

Rosyhf 09-21-2010 02:23 PM

I kinda like the circle too. Make it different. Then I will still get an extra block out of it by cutting away the back of it.

amma 09-21-2010 02:24 PM

Maybe add some decorative stitches like in the traditional crazy quilt blocks?

Fabulous peacock! I used to have a peacock and several pea hens here many years ago. We live way out in the country on the end of a dirt road - the perfect place for peafowl. HE wound up being very mean - very inbred I think.

Anyway, no experience here with crazy quilts - but I would want the peacock to be more showcased - if that is possible.

JMHO

Rosyhf 09-21-2010 02:35 PM

Ok, I think I will put the circle in, then quilt it, then do the stitching and I will enjoy that and some beading and who knows what else.

yolanda 09-21-2010 02:38 PM

I vote for crazy circles and decorative stitching and lot's of beads!! I would not cut into this work of art - the 12" framed pieces are nice on thier own but as a whole I think this will be spectacular!!

Yes, you are right. I will do a lot of decorative stuff around him..

tjradj 09-21-2010 02:40 PM

I love the cut up into blocks, but not gray for a border. Black maybe, but not gray.

amma 09-21-2010 02:43 PM

Maybe a few crystals too? Ohhhhh the possibilities!
Please keep posting pictures as you are adding on to this piece :D:D:D

Thank you ladies, I love all this input. It stays in one piece with lots of decorative stitching and beading. Winter is coming and it will be a nice sit down and watch movies thing to do.

sueisallaboutquilts 09-21-2010 08:00 PM

Rosy, I think the entire piece is marvelous. I love when you post your work. You are such a great artist!! :D

purplefiend 09-21-2010 08:07 PM

I like the first picture.

ScrapQuilter 09-21-2010 08:13 PM

Love the one with the circle......... what a great wall hanging.

Rosyhf 09-21-2010 08:27 PM

Thank you ladies for all your lovely compliments. I got busy with the cleaning again lol and then finished another turkey block, all the while I am thinking.

I will use my circle cutter to cut out the place for the circle. I found a half of a fan that I will put on there too and the little circle and if I think of anything else.

I have never embroidered on a crazy quilt. So I went looking in my library. I found four books on needle work etc. Come to think of it I also have some silk ribbon embroidery. I will dig them out and post them..I will have to relearn the stitches but it won't be hard.

trisha 09-21-2010 08:31 PM

Love them all!!

marymm 09-21-2010 08:36 PM

You have got lots of great ideas and I think others on the board are steering you right. There are several people on the web with lots of crazy quilt advice. ..There are also good examples of various stitch combinations, regular embroidery and ribbon embroidery. You might get some ideas for this site: http://cqmagonline.com/. Beautiful piece already. I love crazy quilting--both the antique variety and newer styles using all the bling and techniques available today. It's a no-rules way of creating with fabric and almost anything else.

tooMuchFabric 09-21-2010 10:28 PM

The only thing "crazy" about it is the type of piecing. Otherwise, this is Brilliant, so beautiful.

Aunt Retta 09-21-2010 10:47 PM
