I have an extension table that is too big for my machine so I need to fit an small piece of plexiglass in to tighten it up so it doesn't slide. Does anyone know how to cut plexiglass? I can't find anyone around here, very small country town, so I would have my husband do it. Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

I use a glass cutter I bought at the hardware store. Be sure to place a strip of masking tape along both sides of the scored line. This stops the glass from splitting. Score your drawn line about 6 or 7 times. Then place the scored line along the edge of a table and you should be able to snap the plexiglass cleanly along your line.

my son and I cut some one time... we cut it like u do glass... masking tape to both sides of the plexiglass, then we etched it with a glass cutter and then snapped it on the edge of a table.... very difficult thenw e used the dremel to smooth the edges...
We also tried cutting it with a circular saw... we taped both sides with masking tape... u have to work fairly quickly tho..or the blade gets so hot it wants to melt the plastic. |
Thank you for that suggestion. Do you know what I can use to glue 2 pieces together?

I assume u mean one on top of the other????? it might look yukky but u should be able to lightly sand the surfaces ( to bring down the gloss) and then something like E 6100 glue... or possibliy a silicone adhesive... I'd besure to clamp it together and clean off any escess before it dries

Epoxy will work.

If you have someone who cuts glass, they should be able to cut the plexi.
Plexi is acrylic ... you could check the glue type products and see what is OK for acrylic. And again ask your glass cutter, as he may know. |
if it is thick plexiglass, use a hand saw. I also use a sabre saw slowly to cut curves. On thin stuff, a glass cutter works best

I've used a jigsaw (sabre saw) before with success.
