How to determine side and corner triangels
Here is my dilema. I need to figure out the size of my squares and I am putting sashing on the squares. I am putting them on point. Do I determine the size of the block with just two side of the sashing because the one sashing sews to another. Did I make this clear or are you confused. I have the math formula but I need to know the size of square first. I only did on point with block to block before and no sashing. Can you help?

dunster, I have those instructions but I don't know is I count the sashing on only two sides because because the sashing down the middle of rows is attached to both strips. do I measure the square with only the sashing on two sides?

If in doubt, sew two together and measure it with a square ruler to see the size you need to cut. Then cut down the corner to corner middle. Include the quarter inch seams and the quarter inch on the bias edge to make it all fit. I bought one of those setting rulers for triangle setting blocks. It really makes life easier.

Yes, measure the square with the sashing on two sides.

Sashing is sashing. It is the total quilt that is then put on point after the blocks and sashing are sewed together. If you are putting something on point, then the concern is more the setting side (& top & bottom) triangles and the corner triangles.

Sometimes, when I can't seem to get the math right no matter how many times and how hard I try, I cheat.
I'd baste in a large triangle, trim it to size, then unsew and measure it. |

Hi everyone, I figures it out, thanks for all your help. I do not have the quilt top sewn together yet but here it is on the design wall.

It will be absolutely beautiful when you finish it. I love your flowers and butterfly colors.
