How to do Bar Tack a Baby Quilt

I would like to know how to bar tack a quilt. I'm not familiar with the procedure. I recently started a thread about tying baby quilts and this term came up in a few posts. I have searched here and on You Tube and can't find an explanation. There were mixed reviews about the safety of using the tying process for baby quilts. Please help. Thank You. :):):)

Use your zig-zag stitch and appropriate foot. Set your stitch length to zero
and width can be as wide as you want. Make a few stitches then move
your quilt layer to the next spot you want to tack, etc. Like most quilting,
start in the middle and work your way out. Probably easier to mark the
spots at regular intervals before tacking.

Don't know which sewing machine you have but some machines have
a special stitch for tacking. I have one on my Janome 6600 that looks
like a big asterisk.

Thanks for your very quick reply. I am really wanting to get started since I haven't quilted in quite a while. I have been doing other projects and my WIPs are calling to me louder every day. I have a Pfaff 1171. I bought it in 1997. It is a wonderful machine I will never get rid of and it has lots of stitches. I will check the manual to see which ones I can use besides my zigzag stitch. Your explanation will be easy to follow. Thanks, again. :):):)

I've tacked quilts using one of my machine's decorative stitches. I've used hearts, little ovals & leaves. My machine- a Pfaff - has a setting where it will only do one motif than stop, maybe your's has that feature too.

I used my button sewing setting to tack a duvet cover. I could make the tacks as heavy as I needed.
