A friend went to a thrift store and got a McKenna Ryan patterned quilt top. It is quite cute and should be finished if possible. Whomever did this top sprayed the fabric and then laid the applique pieces onto it instead of spraying the applique pieces and then placing them. I took the top and did the raw edge applique hoping the glue would then wash out. It did not. I have washed it twice, once with other stuff to get an agitating affect to try to remove the glue. So clearly I don't have a washable glue. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the glue off?

Various glue solvents are, lighter fluid, WD-40, Goo Gone, Goof off, and finger nail polish remover. Most of them are probably not going to be real good for fabric though. I'd probably start with Goo Gone on a rag.

I wonder if they used a craft spray glue instead of washable basting spray?
Maybe contact Elmers... they make craft spray and may have some suggestions for removal :D:D:D

Yeah since you do not know for sure what kinda glue it is I would start with goo gone on a rag... then if that does not work... do WD 40 let it soak in the stuff and then follow with a grease remover like dawn dish soap to get out the WD40.

If you can't get the glue off no matter what, how about trying a layer of tulle over the whole quilt top - it might cover the glue, but will allow the pattern to show through. Be sure you get tulle, not anything heavier.
