How do I figure yardage for bias binding
I did a search here for bias binding and watched both videos but neither one said how much or how big of a piece of fabric you need to make the binding. The Quilted Patch looked like she used a length the same as the width (45") but I don't want to waste that much fabric to cut strips for a 70" square quilt. I cut my binding at 2 1/4" and if I was doing straight binding I would only need about 1/2 yard.

This site has two different methods for making the bias binding, and a chart for how much fabric you need ...

I like Bonnie Hunter's method. It's less confusing to me than the tube that many tutorials show.

Someone asked - continuous binding square size
Someone asked about the size of the square for continuous binding, but I can't find the thread now. Wanted to share this tutorial-- I like this one best, and it gives the formula in the beginning:

Thanks for the link. That tutorial is the one I've been trying to remember that a dear friend told me about. I watched her do it often but I never did it hands on. She has since passed on but this is how I remember her doing it. Takes little time when she did it.
