which way the grain is running in a fabric.
Rosyhf gave the advice to cut along the grain not through it... so how do I tell for sure? Hugs Caroline |
The straight grain runs parallel to the selvedges and is the truest. The cross grain runs from one selvedge to the other. The straight grain does not stretch, but the cross grain will have some give to it.

thank you auntmag

So you want to cut parallel to the selvedge? Is that what that means?

Straight of grain is either directly across or down length of fabric. Diagonal is called Bias. That's all you need. Everyone either cuts across the fabric or down the length.
